War ein Impulsivkauf, weil ich durch die Arbeit immer mehr auch mit Textkonsolen (Serveradministration) konfrontiert wurde.Im Studium hab ich vi bzw. vim nicht verstanden. Nachdem ich das meiste dieses Buchs verschlungen habe, überlege ich gerade ob ich nicht notepad++ und in ferner Zukunft auch VS Code für vim aufgeben sollte. Unter Linux nutze ich, dank dieses Buches, keinen anderen Editor mehr außer vi bzw. vim.Durch das Buch lernt man zum einen, natürlich, wie man vim verwendet aber auch (und vor allem) wie man vim richtig verwendet. Also, warum man was in vim wie macht. Denn auch in vim gilt, viele Wege führen nach Rom.

Sehr gutes Buch. Die Themen sind so verteilt dass man die Befehle auch ganz gut versteht und man muss nichts auswendig lernen.In Vergleich zu vielen Fachbüchern dass man nach Einige Zeit einfach weg schmeißen muss weil die Themen Entwerder zu alt oder sehr oberflächlich beschrieben sind kann man von dieses Buch immer wieder viel lernen und es wird nie langweilig. Und es sogar Spaß macht!
Das Buch ist unbedingt empfehlenswert. Auch wenn ich vi und vim schon viele Jahre verwende, konnte ich in diesem Buch viel zur richtigen Bedienung lernen. Dabei sind auch Tipps, die so nicht ohne weiteres in der vim-Hilfe zu finden sind.

I picked up the book at around 18:00 hours and I closed it at 23:00 hours with regret but I was too tired to read on. Reading this book was a series of WOW's. Every turn of the page brings something new and surprising. WOW! Can this be done too! And WOW, what about THIS! It is so well written that the most obscure becomes comprehensible. A well-earned five stars. And there is only one way to end: :wq.
Ich habe das Buch direkt in den USA bestellt und schon vor 14 Tagen bekommen.Für den Einsteiger vielleicht zu kompliziert, aber für den Gelegenheits-Benutzer mit Ambition, sich zu verbessern, ideal. Die Beispieldateien holt man sich im Internet und dann wird an Hand von konkreten Beispielen dazugelernt.Für die, die nur einen Editor lernen wollen: vim gibts auch für Windows, Mac oder Android, ich bin Fan und bleib dabei.Das Englisch ist gut verständlich, und so hadert man nicht mit Übersetzungsfehlern, bei EDV Fachbüchern empfehle ich daher die Originalversion.Alles zusammen klare Kaufempfehlung.
